Usually, when people mentioned about emo, the first thing that comes on our mind is an anguish teenager who wears back tees, black eyeglasses, tight pants, and a Converse shoes, listening to a loud and depressing punk music. But what is really an emo? Is it just a trend among kids of today’s generation? No matter how trendy it may seem, people still don’t understand what the term emo really refers to.Emo had its roots in the mid 1980’s when punk rock bands started experimenting with their music and began adding deeper thoughts and personal lyrics to their songs. During concerts, emo bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace became so emotional that the fans created “emo” as a way to describe their inspiring performances. From that time on, the pattern of this type of music has been distinguished by dramatic lyrics as well as loud and lingering melodies. Since it started, various Emo bands have successfully crossover from the underground punk rock to the mainstream music charts. Moreover, fans who were inspired by this emo musical genre tend to develop a distinct type of fashion and attitude which characterize the music and lifestyle of various emo bands.
An emo kid is generally defined as someone who goes against popular culture and traditions. Whatever people may think about them, these kids were normally feels comfortable with his lifestyle in music and in fashion. Oftentimes, they tend to express their emotions through arts such as poetry, painting and music. The emo kid is often described as a depressed and angry individual due to the sad and tragic lyrics of their music. However, these kids don’t really have a miserable passive behavior. On the other hand, the other style associated with the lifestyle of emo is distinguished by wearing dark clothes with gothic designs. Emo kids who are involved in this gothic emo fashion wear tailored pants. Other than clothes, emo kids wear accessories such as multicolored wristbands, while those who follow the gothic emo fashion style wear make-ups and have several body piercings.
